                                 Welcome to Fourth/Fifth Grade!
Our students are extremely excited about our classroom website. As we launch this site, please allow me to give a little background on your child's classroom teacher, Mr. Owens (that would be me).
I have taught in the public schools for over twenty-five years and worked with students from preschool through grade twelve over the course of my educational career. Of special note, were two fascinating years spent teaching in a remote, Yup'ik (Eskimo) village, beside the Kuskokwim River.
This is my twelfth year in the Peninsula School District, and the 2011-2012 school year will mark my first year at Voyager Elementary School. Most of my teaching experience and expertise come from teaching in the intermediate grades (4th & 5th), and, yes, I have taught split classes before.
I have a BA in Elementary Education from Western Washington University and an MEd from the University of Puget Sound (in Improvement of Instruction) with an emphasis in Reading/English/Language Arts.
Most of my years have been spent living in Gig Harbor, and two of my three children are currently attending school in the Peninsula School District; the greatest school district (in my opinion) wherein I have had the privilege to grow, learn, and teach.
We all know that your child's first and most important teacher is you, the parent/guardian. Together, we will walk on either side of our student, guiding, supporting, and encouraging our most precious resource...our children. Here is to a terrific journey of collaboration, cooperation, and shared responsibility, as we walk, as one, upon this educational sojourn.

Sincerely,

N. Ken Owens
